Overview

The Romanian insurance market in Romania continued its growth trend in 2017, the local industry totalling EUR 2.1 billion, 3.5% more than in the previous year.

The number of insurance companies on the domestic market decreased from 2011 and by the end of 2016, 31 companies operated on the Romanian insurance market.

The top 10 local insurers accounted for almost 89% of the total premiums underwritten in 2017. City Insurance was first last year, with a market share of 12.9%, followed by Allianz-Tiriac, with 12.7%, and Euroins, with 11.2%. Omniasig and Asirom, both part of Vienna Insurance Group, ranked next, with 10.9% and 10% shares of the gross premiums. Groupama, NN Asigurari de Viata, Generali, Uniqa, and BCR Asigurari de Viata completed the top 10.
