Company Overview

The CRH plc group was founded in 1970, through the merger of two large companies in Ireland that were active in the field of construction materials, Cement Limited (established in 1936) and Roadstone Limited (1949). The group formed at that time, Cement Roadstone Holdings, became the sole producer of cement and the largest producer of aggregates, concrete and asphalt in Ireland, the parent market being the one that also generated the largest part of sales, about 95% . Since then, CRH plc has grown exponentially year on year, reaching sales equivalent to €27 million in 1970 to €24 billion in 2014. At the same time, the group has also increased its presence internationally and currently It operates in 37 countries and employs more than 90,000 people in 4,000 locations worldwide.

In August 2015, the CRH plc group took over for 6.5 billion euros a part of the assets of the Lafarge and Holcim companies, including Lafarge's operations in Romania. With this acquisition, CRH entered the top 3 of the largest players in the world's construction materials industry and became the world's number 2 in the aggregates market.

Grupul CRH plc a fost fondat în anul 1970, prin fuziunea a două mari companii din Irlanda care activau în domeniul materialelor de costrucții, Ciment Limited (înființată în 1936), respectiv Roadstone Limited (1949). Grupul format la acel moment, Cement Roadstone Holdings, a devenit singurul producător de ciment și cel mai mare producător de agregate, beton și asfalt din Irlanda, piața-mamă fiind de altfel cea care genera și cea mai mare parte a vânzărilor, circa 95%. Ulterior, CRH plc a crescut exponențial an de an, ajungând de la vânzări echivalente a 27 de milioane de euro în 1970 la 24 de miliarde de euro în 2014. În același timp, grupul și-a sporit prezența și la nivel internațional și în prezent derulează operațiuni în 37 de țări și are peste 90.000 de angajați în 4.000 de puncte de lucru din întreaga lume.

În august 2015, grupul CRH plc a preluat pentru 6,5 miliarde de euro o parte din activele companiilor Lafarge și Holcim, printre acestea numărându-se și operațiunile Lafarge din România. Prin această achiziție, CRH a intrat în top 3 al celor mai mari jucători din industria materialelor de construcții din lume și a devenit numărul 2 la nivel mondial pe piața de agregate.
