Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG) is a joint venture company established by a Royal Decree in 1994 operating under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman.
The company undertakes, directly or indirectly, project operations and related activities essential to liquefy, store, transport, and market Oman’s natural gas and deliver LNG, and its by-products natural gas (NGLs) to customers. The company’s activities contribute to the Government’s objectives of diversifying the economy.
Oman LNG operates three liquefaction trains – two owned by Oman LNG LLC and one by Qalhat LNG SAOC with a nameplate capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) – at its plant in Qalhat, South Sharqiyah Governorate. On 1 September 2013, Oman LNG and Qalhat LNG integrated to form a single entity operating under the name of Oman LNG.
Oman LNG has an ambitious vision and dedication towards Corporate Social Responsibility as indicated by the launch of Oman LNG Development Foundation. The Foundation addresses many areas of social development in Oman, but in general comprises a Community Fund targeting initiatives related to the Sur Community where its world-class plant is located; a National Fund that covers a large swath of the company’s social development programmes across the nation; and a Reserve Fund to address the sustainability and continuity of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. The Foundation additionally aims to become a Centre of Excellence to develop lasting CSR initiatives through partnering, knowledge sharing, funding and investments.
With an exceptional training programme for employees, internationally recognised health and safety standards, world-class work facilities and a large pool of professionals across many specialisations, Oman LNG has achieved many landmarks, becoming a much sought-after institution, with many individuals aspiring to join its highly-skilled workforce.
Oman LNG invests heavily in local and international staff training programmes and identified interventions. It is also the main catalyst in urging its staff to achieve professional qualifications that drive expertise on the job, which has resulted in a growing number of staff who are undertaking professional certificates in different disciplines at various accredited institutes around the globe. In 2009, Oman LNG was awarded the Regional Employer of the Year 2009 by the Institute of International Research (IIR), Middle East.
Some of the other highlights in the company’s corporate history include reaching an outstanding nineteen million man-hours without Lost-Time Injury (LTI) in 2016, export of two thousand cargoes of LNG by mid-2016, and an Edexcel accreditation of the establishment’s Sur-based training facilities to offer a Higher National Diploma (HND) in LNG Technology in 2010.
