Company Overview

Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU) is the leading specialist in petroleum and petro-chemistry Education in north western China.

The University operates with joint support from the local provincial government and the three major oil companies in China. It is also one of the universities selected by the provincial government for its “12th Five-Year Plan” project of high-level university development.

The University was established in 1951 as the Northwest Oil Industry Secondary School to meet the demands of a rapidly developing oil industry. In 2003, the school was upgraded from a college to university and renamed as Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU). In 2009 the Shannxi provincial government and the three major oil companies in China signed an agreement to jointly develop the school. In 2011 the school was included as one of the universities selected by the provincial government for its “12th Five-Year Plan” project of high-level university development.

The City Campus of the University is located in the High and New-tech Development Zone of Xi’an, and the New Campus is in the Xian Fengjing Industrial Zone , Hu county, Xian.

The University has students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China and there are currently 2,300 postgraduates and 17,800 undergraduates. In addition there are 300 international students and 15,000 students in continuing education.

There are 1,600 staff members, with 1,000 full-time teachers. Of them, there are over 500 professors and associate professors, about 300 tutors for PhD or master degree candidates, and 660 of the staff have achieved their PhD or master degrees. The school has also hired 10 academics from both home and abroad as Distinguished Visiting Professors.

In addition to teaching the University devotes time to scientific research. In the last three years, the total number of key national and provincial research projects, including the National Natural Sciences Fund, National Social Sciences Fund, Project 863 and 973 amounted to 198, with a total fund of 350 million RMB. And the total amount of funding from all projects in 2011 alone came to 127 million RMB.
