Vanessa is a Junior Art Director for Tantrum in Toronto, Canada. Below she talks about her career and how she accomplished her goals, and gives you advice on how to be successful in your future.
What typical tasks and activities does your current role involve?
I design and animate graphics for various electronic media. It involves working with my co-workers, ad agencies and clients on how to deliver ad campaigns or a message in the most visually appealing way.
What skills, knowledge and experience contributed to you getting this job?
I have a background studying Illustration at UWE which helped me to develop my conceptual thinking as well as give me some fundamental skills. I′ve always been fascinated by audio and visual and chose to explore that, which led me to be a motion designer.
What key advice would you give to current Malaysian students who would like to get similar work to yours?
You′ll need a strong portfolio (goes without saying) and also a good work ethic because there are often late nights when everyone wants to put in a bit more to get things to the next level.
Do you have any other useful advice for other current students and graduates?
Try and get a work placement while you′re still studying because it gives you a more realistic view of how your industry works.
