Calling all IT graduates: Indian IT companies to increase hiring by 76%

According to a new survey conducted by Experis IT, Indian IT companies are aiming to increase their hiring rates by a whopping 76% over the next few months.

The news follows months of global uncertainty, most notably due to US President-Elect Donald Trump’s infamous campaign to limit outsourcing in the US. Moreover, the industry body Nasscom also forecasted lower growth in single digits.

Experis IT, a branch of HR consultancy firm Manpower Group India, completed a survey of over 1,000 top-tier and mid-tier employers, which included IT and ITeS companies. The results indicated that south India (34%) and the west (20%) had the best job prospects. The north and east registered 18% and 3% respectively.

The area most in demand is software development, followed by roles that encompass a combination of both complex and niche skills.

Experis IT president Manmeet Singh felt that the survey results were essential for both employers and potential employees. He further predicted that given India’s emerging tech and start-up industry, as well as the rise of automation and AI, there would be a need to constantly reskill and upskill employees and job seekers.

Individuals can achieve this by investing in their talents and actively seeking out new learning opportunities. Equally, this attitude of continual learning will aid in bridging India’s talent gap. This is something we have previously spoken about as, despite India providing many roles and opportunities, it does not always have candidates to fill them.

Elsewhere in the study, it was concluded that most hiring will take place for candidates in the mid-level experience range (three to eight years), with 24% reporting that .NET skills would increase in demand in the coming months. Some 22% also reported that they were looking for candidates with versatile skill sets.

Finally, the report also found that almost half of employers were struggling to find the right candidate (48%). Singh commented that: “To tide over the shortage in skilled IT talent, firms are increasingly hiring IT professionals on contract, as it's cost-effective, and improves flexibility and agility of companies.”

Ultimately, despite setbacks in recruitment, it paints a positive picture of the IT industry for new graduates to kick-start their career. Don’t forget, we have a range of unbeatable IT opportunities currently based across India. Check out our job board today.
