SPAD chief development officer Dr Prodyut Dutt said works for the high speed rail project is estimated to take five years. The project is due for completion by 2022.

"If worked backwards, the indicative date is 2017," he told reporters at the Rail Business Asia trade event here.

Prodyut said preliminary work for the tender is in progress and will be done in consultation with the government of Singapore.
