CareerJunction has released its latest CareerJunction Index (CJI) update, showing which jobs are most in demand in South Africa.

 

According to CJ, the April Index is positioned below the 100 mark at 96.55, indicating easing recruitment conditions. This comes after a 4% decrease in job advertising, the jobs portal said.

 

While April saw a slight drop in new jobs, there has been a steady overall upward trend during 2015. Overall, demand is considerably higher year-on-year.

 

A slight decrease in job advertising during April means a slightly more competitive environment for job seekers.

 

The Retail, Manufacturing, Admin and Engineering industries are exceptions to this rule, however.

 

Since January, new jobs have increased by between 20-30% within the Retail and Manufacturing industries while the Admin industry, job ad volumes doubled.

 

Year-on-year, the Engineering industry saw an increase in job advertising of 40%. The Telecommunication sector on the other hand has seen a drop in hiring activity during the last running quarter. Since January, demand is down by 10%,” the group said.

 

Demand within the IT industry remains steady, with year-on-year data showing that hiring activity has picked up by 9%.
