Migrants create highest number of jobs in the UK

On a latest data revealed on Wednesday, migrants have created highest number of jobs in the UK.

Migrant entrepreneurs are behind one in seven of all UK companies as half a million people from 155 countries have settled in here and launched businesses.

Entrepreneurial activity among the migrant community has been found to be nearly double that of UK-born individuals, with 17.2% having launched their own businesses, compared to 10.4% of those born here.

They are also, on average, eight years younger than indigenous entrepreneurs at 44.3 years-old compared to 52.1. Indian migrants form the second highest number of entrepreneurs in UK with about 32,593 - second only to the Irish living in Britain (48,884).

Authoritative research from the Centre for Entrepreneurs has found the Irish, Indian, German, American and Chinese to be the top performing nationalities. Migrant-founded companies are responsible for creating 14% of all jobs.

Centre for Entrepreneurs chairman Luke Johnson said, "The majority of the public appreciate the value of migrant entrepreneurs, yet our politicians and media send out negative signals that risk alienating this vital group of job creators." He said given the huge contribution of migrant entrepreneurs, they are calling upon the media and politicians to join them in celebrating those who come to our country and launch businesses.
