And since you’ll often be discussing complex products, you’ll also need to be analytical, enjoy mathematics, and have an excellent grasp of the financial markets. Trading Analyst

Markets & International Banking has major trading centres in London, Stamford, Singapore and Tokyo.

A trader’s day

In their market-making capacity, our traders provide liquidity in various financial products to our clients, while at the same time aiming to make an incremental profit on each trade. Our sales team, acting on behalf of a client, will typically ask them for a ‘bid’ and ‘offer’ quote on an instrument. It will be down to the trader to gauge the instrument’s liquidity (its relative tradability in the market) and the direction of price movements. Once they’ve provided a quote, they’ll deal with other brokers and institutions to execute the trade as required. It’s a fast-moving role – and a trader’s day could include everything from quick pricing and structuring a complex trade to managing an existing position.

Who we are looking for

Exceptional numerical and analytical skills are an absolute necessity. An interest in the financial markets would obviously be an advantage, and you’ll need the mental resilience to handle pressurised situations. Strong people skills are also vital, as you’ll need to build relationships with sales, structuring and strategy teams.
