Five Finance Jobs Perfect For Graduates

For many recent graduates, finding a job that matches their experience level can be challenging. It can often be disheartening for would-be applicants who feel that they are too experienced for minimum wage or low-skilled roles, but are under-qualified for the career they really want. Many feel that they just need that first step on the ladder to get going, but when it seems like you need five years’ experience just to get an entry level position, it is understandable to see why some are dismayed.

However, it doesn’t need to be this way – especially if you’re a finance graduate looking to break into the sector (and as a side note, we’d also say that with enough hard work and time spent exploring our job board, any career is achievable). Insider Monkey recently published nine jobs that need little to no experience – here are five of our favourite, and most popular, roles.

Financial advisor

Being a financial advisor may sound tough, but once you’ve got to grips with the basics of the role and with the stock market, it is quite simple. Tasks include everything from advising on what stocks to invest in, to which insurance plan or mortgage a person should buy. Advisors can work both independently or in an agency, and although an agency would require more experience, they would also provide training.

Bank representative

Banks are an excellent starting point for graduates, as their graduate schemes are both accessible and informative. The role entails meeting clients, companies and individuals to share information about the services a bank offers.

Insurance sales person

This is a popular role thanks to its simple starting point and the disaster-proof nature of the work; after all, people will always need insurance. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, but for those with the gift of the gab, experience comes second.

Customer support and service

For this role, you’d need little more than experience working in customer service roles, for instance, in a shop or a bar. It basically requires liaising with customers over the phone, handling their problems and solving their queries. Applicants are also usually well trained in every aspect of the business, services and company protocol before they get a chance to pick up the phone, making it one of the easiest roles to get into.

Banking assistant

Bank tellers are often the public face of the bank. They talk to customers, control payments, oversee billing methods and conduct both simple and complex roles within the bank. While the role isn’t the most exciting immediately, it does present fantastic opportunities for career growth – in particular for those willing to put in the time and effort to work their way up the banking hierarchy.
