Agpur: Union minister for skill development and training Rajiv Pratap Rudy feels that self-employment is the best way to address the issue of unemployment in the country.
According to Rudy, less than 5% Indians come under the earning class as opposed to countries like China, Japan, UK and US where about 60 to 70% of the population has earning capacity. "Although the government is introducing various policies, India doesn't have the capacity to provide employment to every youth," he said while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the three-day 2nd Youth Empowerment Summit organized by Fortune Foundation, at Mankapur Sports Complex, on Saturday. MLC Anil Sole, mayor Pravin Datke, MLA Ashish Deshmukh, MLA Vikas Kumbhare, NMC standing committee chairman Ramesh Singare and leader of ruling party in NMC Dayashankar Tiwari were also present.
Sole, who is also president of Fortune Foundation, said, "In 2015, around 1,200 start-ups came into existence in our country but 99% of them were concentrated only in metro cities. This year our goal would be to ensure small towns too promote start-ups in equal number."
Mentioning the role of Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Ltd (MUDRA) Bank scheme, Sole said many youth from poor background wish to make a difference but they lack financial support. "With better finance they can do much better," he said.
Around 250 institutions had set up stalls at the summit for providing consultation to youths regarding self-employment. Among the industrial training institutes offering two year courses in construction, manufacturing and light engineering, one was Laxmanrao Vastal and Multiskill Institute whose trainees exhibited a machine made from dumped spare parts.
An organization 'R K' demonstrated how using a machine costing around Rs38,000 one can make fresh noodles and similar snacks in the morning, sell it in the market right away and earn about Rs1,500 each day. "The machine is easy to work with. We also provide training on operating the machine," said owner of the institute, Ravindra Khadse.
