If you are reading GradLink Africa site, you are likely studying in the UK or have obtained a UK degree. Now that you have a taste of what it is like to live in Europe and may think about your future careers, whether or not to work abroad. According to Homecoming Revolution, they urge diaspora and graduates to go back to their motherland and help building the better Africa for tomorrow.
Homecoming Revolution is an organisation which provides an one-stop platform for African skills repatriation. They held ′London Expo 2014′ on 15-16 March and provided the link between diaspora and employers. Dr Mabouba Diagne, one of the key speakers for the Expo, explained why you should work and stay in Africa continent instead. Dr Diagne has a PhD degree in Financial Risk Management and Portfolio Optimisation from University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He had been offered several high profile posts in the past and had a comfortable life in Europe. However, he decided to work in South Africa because he felt happier to live in Africa. But most importantly, he realised that Africa needs skilled and experience persons to set up the solid framework in Financial sector. He is now working at the CIBW Infrastructure for Barclays/ABSA Capital as a Chief Operation Officer in Johannesburg.
Of course, as many speakers pointed out, everything is not perfect back home: high crime rates, corruption and poor transport infrastructure, to name a few. However, right now Africa is a blooming continent; many opportunities are available. With the fact that the technology like mobile and social networks is within reach, it helps people getting closer and interact with each other more frequently. People can easily transform their ideas into actions. It may require hard work, but with your skills and knowledge, Africa is long to have you back. After all, as Homecoming Revolution slogan suggested: ′Africa deserves her skills back!′
