Teaching profession is well acknowledged

KUALA LUMPUR: The teaching profession in Malaysia is more acknowledged and given ample resources in their line of work.

National Leadership Figure (Tokoh Kepimpinan Kebangsaan) Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said teachers should increase their efforts and be responsible in the profession to provide better services in the education sector.

"Teachers are well acknowledged by the government. In my opinion, this profession is one of the best professions because of the income, employment opportunities and promotion," he said.

"Such benefits should be regarded as a booster for teachers to improve in their line of service," he added.

Alimuddin said the education sector has evolved much in the past few decades.

"Today, almost every school in the country is provided with the basic facilities… Almost everything is provided for teachers to develop their quality," he said, adding that the country′s education system has progressed for a better path.

Alimuddin said this to reporters during the launching of the 43rd National Level Teachers′ Day with the theme ′Teachers: The Creator of Creativity, Generator of Innovations′ at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.

Alimuddin, who was the former director general of education, was handed the National Leadership figure award by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The launching also saw Johor cluster advisor Tengku Azuan Tengku Mohamed awarded the National Teacher Figure (Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan).

Tengku Azuan said the teaching profession had more challenges these days due to the increase of information on the web.

"Students nowadays rely more on the information from the internet without having teachers to guide them in a proper way. Teachers have had to put in extra efforts in order to overcome such situations," she said.
